LENS Council meet in Budapest

On 13 – 14 November 2023, representatives of the LENS Council gathered at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in Budapest. As well as advancing discussions initiated at the recent LENS meeting in Lund, the meeting also demonstrated LENS’ support for the ongoing development of neutron infrastructure in Hungary.

Following a roundtable of updates from LENS Members and Observers, the focus shifted to the importance of sustaining European neutron infrastructure as a crucial asset for international research. Conversations centred on ensuring the long-term viability of the European neutron landscape, framing discussions around the proposed modernisation of the Budapest Research Reactor and future plans for an accelerator-based neutron source in Hungary.

Looking ahead, the Council aims to optimise LENS’ structure and activities in order to boost collaboration, accelerate scientific and technical developments, and support the user community. It is hoped that this collective effort will support the continual growth and advancement of European neutron community.

As part of the meeting, LENC Council members had an opportunity to tour the Budapest Neutron Centre.
