Strengthening European neutron science and technology

LENS is the joint initiative of ten European-level neutron facilities that are working to advance neutron science and enable research addressing key scientific and societal challenges.

Our goals

LENS supports any activity with the potential to advance European neutron science through enhanced collaboration among its members.

Our members

Our nine members provide specialist instrumentation, scientific and technical expertise to researchers across the world.

Science using neutrons

Neutrons are a powerful tool for materials characterisation, enabling researchers to address societal grand challenges.

Over the last 50 years, Europe has established a powerful ecosystem of neutron facilities that supports the largest community of neutron users in the world.

Collaboration within the ecosystem has always been strong. In 2018, nine of Europe’s neutron facilities formed a strategic consortium, LENS, to enable collaboration on strategies, communication, neutron usage, data, technology development and more.

LENS members are working together to ensure a strong and sustainable neutron community in Europe and to deliver the advanced research capabilities needed to address current and future societal challenges.
